About Selva Marina Country Club (Atlantic Beach, FL)
The unique name (Selva Marina means "Rainforest by the Sea") is the first sign of the character of this Country Club. Unlike many newer layouts, Selva Marina is a core course with homes only bordering the outside of the course, making it a sanctuary from the outside world. A great walking course, Selva Marina hosted the Greater Jacksonville Open, the precursor to THE PLAYERS Championship, back in the mid-60s where Jack Nicklaus made personal history when he holed out his first professional double-eagle from the 18th fairway. Generous landing areas give players a fun start, but well-bunkered, elevated greens featuring subtle undulations offer all the challenge you'll ever want. The par-3s are scenic (the 11th was surrounded by water on three sides a quarter-century before that island green at Sawgrass was created), there are few forced carries, and the finishing trio of holes, a mid-range par-3, a short par-4 and a reachable par-5, create an exciting finish to any group's outing.
